Our corporate social responsibility strategy is closely aligned to our core business. We build local partnerships to pool expertise and to have a significant positive impact on the communities in which we operate. It is also an opportunity for our employees to engage in solidarity missions throughout the year.
General Mills Foundation
General Mills is involved in and actively participates in the improvement of living conditions of the communities around us.
Since its creation in 1954, the General Mills foundation has fueled more than half a billion dollars in support of nonprofit organisations in our communities. Brand philanthropy and corporate contributions represent the largest share of our giving, followed by Foundation grants.
The General Mills Community and Charity Strategy places a strong emphasis on young people and education.
Earth Day represents an opportunity for individuals to give something back to their local community. General Mills has supported this initiative for the last two years and 2012 saw members of the company volunteering at a local environment centre.
Mobile Youth Centres
We received the highest Gold FDF Community Award for our mobile youth centres ‘The Point’, and ‘The Transporter’ both of which have also been recognised in the Institute of Grocery Distribution Awards. Over the last seven years the buses have made contact with tens of thousands of children. In one year alone the buses made contact with 10,028 children.
